SHIRLEY CLUB The o.Ticial opening of the Shirley Cricket Club took place on Saturday at Richmond Park. Mr E. L. McKeon, in declaring the season open, welcomed the new members and wished the club success during the coming season. Net practice was held during the afternoon and members appreciated the opportunity of a knock before the commencement of the competitions. The club will be considerably strengthened this season by the inclusion of S. Rich who has transferred from Lancaster Park, G. Cullen from St. Albans, F. Smith, G. Roberts, C. F. Pitt, and the return of H. Elvy.
.MALVERN ASSOCIATION Playing in the Malvern Association's competition on Saturday, Springfield defeated Darfield by five runs. The scores were: Spr ; nsfield 102, Darfield 97. For Springfield J. McKay 17 and R. Hardic 61, and for Darfield Summerville 12, Dr. Reid 20, J. Milliard 21, and H. Otten 25 were the highest Ecorors. Bowling for Darfield L. Wcßtwood, ono for 19, (I. I'orteoUK, two for 54, and J. Ciunn. seven for 2f, and for Springfield A. Diekie, four for 44. and If. Hanlie. five for 27, secured the bc?t averages.
