BOWLS
CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE
BOWL-TESTING RULE SUSPENDED Because the official bowl tester of the Christchurch Bowling Centre will be unable to test and stamp all bowls before the opening of the pennant competition, new regulations for which require a recent stamping, it was decided by the meeting of the centre last evening that the competition be played under the same conditions as last year. Mr A. F. Rollinson presided over a large attendance. The question was raised when Mr A. Dickson reported that the official bowl tester would be unable to test and stamp all the bowls before the opening of the pennant competition, so that the rule requiring their testing and stamping would have to be relaxed. He moved that the regulation covering the stamping of bowls be not enforced until January 1. It was stated that any bowl, whether stamped or not, would be permitted, but players would have the right of challenge. An amendment that the pennant competition be played under the same conditions as last year was carried. An application from the Cashmere Hills Club for permission—because of special circumstances—to enter only four rinks in the pennant competition instead of the stipulated 60 per cent, of membership was referred to the match committee.
Tournaments Approved The Akavoa Club was granted permission to hold a two-day rinks tournament on December 26 and 27. Permission was given the Sunnyside Bowling Club to hold a rinks tourney on December 17. The application from the Edgeware Club to conduct a rinks tournament on January 24, 1935, was also approved. The Rakaia Club was authorised to add a mixed rinks competition to its tournament on Labour Day. Reporting for the match committee, Mr A. Dickson said that the Spreydon Club had applied for permission to hold a doubles tournament on Labour Day. Although the committee had no objections it had refused the application because a permit had already been given United for the day and United had objected to other tournaments being sanctioned. It might be as well, Mr Dickson continued, if some decision were made about applications for holiday tournaments being received together. Perhaps a date could be fixed by which all applications should be in hand. A letter was read from the Spreydon Club protesting against the committee's decision, and stating that as only one tournament' was being held in the city on the day in question there would be plenty of players available.. After discussion. the Spreydon Club's application was granted, only the United Club delegate dissenting. Referees v.
