HEATHCOTE The meeting of the Heathcote County Council held last night was attended by Crs. C. Flavell (chairman), W. W. Scarff, W. Kerr, E. Rowse, A. G. Williams, and F. W. Freeman. An apology for absence on account of illness was received from Cr. J. F. Scott. At a special meeting of the council the estimates for 1934-35 and the special rates struck at a previous meeting were confirmed. The Christchur-.i Tramway Board wrote agreeing to pay 5 per cent, commission to the council for the collecting of the board's general and special rates. The Hillsborough Burgesses' Association wrote expressing appreciation of the action of the council in providing riverside seats in Aynsley terrace. Crs. Williams and Scarff were appointed to represent the council at the conference convened by the City Council to frame a policy of co-opera-tion in a unified scheme for the development of the natural attractions of the city and adjacent areas, to be held on July 3. It was decided to contribute £3 3s to the funds of the Christchurch Technical College. Thorrington Subdivision Amended plans of the subdivision of the Thorrington estate were- submitted. Some discussion ensued on the roading of the subdivision. Cr. Freeman said that the plan showed the necessity for the council having a town planning committee. Some years ago it cost the county £3OOO to make a road—Macmillan avenue—between Hackthorne road and Dyer's Pass road. Cr. Scarff: That was in the days when the council did not have the power to compel. It was decided that the member for the Cashmere riding consult with the Lands and Survey Department regarding the future roading of the subdivision.
