Mr R. Hughes, of Hanmer Springs, has recently purchased from Mr R. O. Johnson, St. Albans, a little Sydney Silky bitch puppy, from Lady Pam by that.good dog Yarra Wattle Blue.
Miss Betty PofF, of Styx, has this week sold a typical blue roan Cocker bitch to Mr E. Grey, of Teddington, who intends breeding from her. The latest acquisition by Mrs P. Simon, of Hoon Hay, a well-known breeder of Alsatians, Scottish Terriers, and Cairns, is a promising seven-months-old cream Cairn bitch puppy, Heather of Glendare. This youngster is from Bunty, by Rosemoyne Rambler, and has the typical keen Cairn expression, claiming many ancestors of the Ross-shire strain. Miss Leila Greig, of Chingford Kennels, Timaru, informs me that she has recently disposed of a very handsome Alsatian dog puppy to Mr D. Brain, of Dunedin. This youngster is registered as Silver Knight of Chingford, and is from Flash of Arnaverne (imp.) by ch. Wixhun of Rezarf. Mr H. S. Mitchell, owner of the Aotea Kennels. New Brighton, did very well with her Bulldog bitch, Rata, at the recent Dunedin show, winning the limit, colonial-bred, and open classes and annexing the trophy given by the South Island Bulldog Club and Ihe Top Dog Cup for the best Bulldog in the show, against strong competition. Rata allb proved her worth at the Ashburton show this week by winning the limit and open classes and the trophy for the best Bulldog in show and was runner-up to the best dog' of all breeds.
Another Christchurch breeder who lias reason to be proud of laurels won at the recent Dunedin and Ashburton shows is Mr N. S. Brosnan, of the Kcmvick Kennels. St.. Albans. His blue roan Cocker bitch, ch. ltcnwick Tangle, took all before he)- in Dunedin. winning the open class and annexing the Aulscbrook trophy for best sporting dog. the Conn Cup for Ihe best Cocker, the blue ribbon (oiliest sporting dog or bitch, and the Swan Cup for best of all breeds. Tangle also had the honour of being made best in show of all breeds at Ashburton this week. Ch. Renwick Nugget came first in the open and colonial-bred classes for black Cockers and was runner-up to best opposite sex for best in shew at Dunedin. Gayhurst Lad, a splendid Irish setter, the property of Mr H. Mcintosh, Christchurch, won all his classes at the Dunedin show and was best opposite sex of all breeds in show. CANTERBURY KENNEL CLUB BOON CUP FIELD TRIAL A trial for the Boon Cup, consisting of a land and water test, will be held on the property of Messrs Hader, Harris, and Whitty, at Brooklands (about two miles past the Styx bridge), on Sunday, July 1, commencing at 10.30 a.m. sharp. All dogs entered for the trial must be purebred and registered with the New Zealand Kennel Club. The following officials have been appointed:—Judge, Major HunterBlair; judge's steward, Mr E. Jamieson; shooters, Messrs F. Truscott and A. Dawson; and trap steward, Mr D. Ormgndy. Additional trophies have been given by the Canterbury Kennel Club for the runner-up to the winner of the Boon Cup; by Mr E. Jamieson. for the best performance by a dog that has never won a first prize at any field trial; by Mr W. F. Marsh, for the best performance by a dog, Pawned by a novice owner; and by Mr A. R. Matheson. for the best performance by a dog under the age of 15 months on the day of the trial.
