... tke unreal OF IHF- Bis-. Sir. —As a resident of Fendalton. lining within 50 yards of the Daresbury rookery, I wish to contradict flatly the statement made in "The Pre.-s ' that the walnut trees in the locality a.e each Year raided bv my triend the rook. "My family, who are the oldest residents in Fendalton, have lived at the foot of the rookery l'or nearly 00 years, and have never had cause to complain '.hat then walnut or I nut trees have been devastated by rooks Thc~oniv lime when the rook* alinht i'i; the trees 111 the building soa>on. before '.he foliage appears: and then it is oniv to break of!' piece? of dred branches, which they curry away !>• their nests at the top ot the b'uo--urns. The rook has been accused of manv crimes: but i suggest tliat your l'eporter was badly misled wivn he made such a ridiculous statement. 1 have several of the largest walnut trees in the district, and, had any damage been done by the reeks, must have noticed it. Your "informant who imputes the dieging of potatoes to rooks must be a humorist—Yours, etc., RINGTOES. March 20, 1934.
