JAPANESE JUSTICE
♦ CIVILIANS SENTENCED FOR POLITICAL CRIME (Received February 4, 6.30 p.m.) TOKYO, February 3. The district court has sentenced the civilians involved in the assassination of Mr K. Inukai, the Premier of Japan, on May 15, 1932. Kosaburo Tachivana. head of the Agrarians' Welfare Study Association, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Four teachers. 10 youths, two farmers, and three leaders of patriotic societies were sentenced to periods of imprisonment varying from three and a half to 15 years.
[The Premier's official residence was attacked by 25 young naval and military officers, who overpowered the police and shot Mr Inukai. It was stated that the murderers were members of a secret society of young officers who were dissatisfied with the form of government and with capitalist influence.]
