MANY NEW HOUSES IN ENGLAND
RECORD NUMBER NOW BEING CONSTRUCTED MINISTER'S STATEMENT (BRITISH OM'IOIAL VUIELESS.) (Received November 21, 7.5 p.m.) RUGBY, November 20. The Minister for Health, Sir Hilton Young, opened the twenty thousandth municipal house built in Manchester. He said that more houses were now being built in Great Britain by private enterprise than at any previous time. A house of the type needed for the lower-paid wage-earner was being built at an average cost of £2Bl, compared with £295 last year. There had been 169,000 houses built by private enterprise in the year ended September 30, and in the same period 49,213 houses had been completed by local authorities.
