Mr Angus Donaldson (Pioneer Sports Club) presided at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Athletic Clubs' Protection Association last evening for the thirtieth time. Mr Donaldson was re-elected honorary auditor, a position which he has also held since 1903. At the monthly meeting of the Ellesmere Land Drainage Board the chairman, Mr R. M. D. Morten, tendered his resignation after 21 years' service as chairman and 24 years as 1 a member. His resignation was accepted with regret, and on the motion of Mr H. J. Macartney, seconded by Mr J. Sharp, it was resolved to place on record appreciation of his services. Mr J. Sharo was elected chairman for the ensuing period. - A tribute to the fine work done in the interests of tennis by Mr J. A. Redman, who has left New Plymouth to take up his residence in | Christchurch, was made at the an- | nual meeting of the New Plymouth < I Lawn Tennis Club, of which .Mr j Redman was secretary. It was a ' matter of regret, said the president m(Dr. G. Home), that Mr Redman | had gone from the district, for he left a vacancy in tennis affairs. The club had made a presentation of a tobacco pouch and a pipe to Mr | Redman before his departure. !. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of Messrs R. F. Goulter and X.D; Wyllie were passed at a meeting' Of the executive of the Canterbury Progress League last evening. The chairman," Mr C. Flavell, said that Mr Goulter was .the first president of the Marlborough Progress League, and was a well-known resident of that province. Mr Wyllie was for many years chairman of the Kowal County Council, and was associated with many public bodies. Mr W. H. Dixon, L.R.A.M., A.R.C.M., musical' director of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society and conductor for the Ashburton | Choral Society, has been appointed I by the Bendigo Competitions So- | ciety to act as judge at its compej titions next year. Mr Dixon, who came to Christchurch about five years ago, is a tenor vocalist who has sung on .the concert platform in England with many well-known singers, and has had much experience in choral work. Since his arrival in New Zealand he has been judge at the competitions in Wellington, Dunedin, Gore, Hawera, and on the West Coast.
