WINTER SHOW
♦ LAST TWO DAYS demonstration of spinning A demonstration of hand spinning and weaving, from the raw material to the finished article, attracted great interest at the Winter Show yesterday afternoon. The show will close to-mor-row evening, and it is still drawing big crowds each day and evening. Before the close on Saturday evening the Ranfurly Shield will be presented to the winning team.
Yesterday's special attractions included a display of physical drill by the pupils of the Fenaalton school. The display was given in the afternoon and in the evening, and on both occasions was very well received. In the evening a demonstration of shearing Angora rabbits was given on the stage. Music was provided by the Woolston Band. The Attendance. The attendance yesterday was 1695 adults ancT"426 children, a total of 2121. The attendance estimating competition on Wednesday was won by Mr W. H. Stark, Kaiapoi (2816), with Mrs R. Lloyd, St. Martins (2801) second. The attendance was 2819. Children from 14 schools visited the show yesterday as follows: —Brookside 30 Kirwee 15, Dunsandel 60, Greenpark 30, Sheffield-Waddington 50, Ashburton Greenstreet 14, Irwell 30, View Hill 17, Hornby 17, Oxford District High School 15, Mount Somers 10, West Melton 6, Leeston Convent 20, Shirley 280. West Coast Party. The West Coast express brought to Christehurch last evening 250 children and 100 adults, some of whom had been travelling from 7 a.m. More than 100 of the children were billeted by| the show authorities, who are veryj grateful to those who offered to take care of the children. The party from the West Coast will return to-mor-row morning. , ... To-day's programme will include a demonstration of spinning and weaving at 2 p.m., a mannequin parade showing home-spun garments at 3.30 p.m., and 7.45 p.m.. and a demonstration of rabbit shearing at 7.15 p.m. The Christehurch Working Men's Club orchestra will play in the evening. The children's fancy dress carnival will be held to-morrow afternoon. Results of Competition?. The results of competitions for ar- ! chitecture students and draughtsmen in Canterbury, held for the Winter Show, are as follows: Design No. I—A modern brick house, costing £1250—8. S. Smyth 1, B. C. Munro 2. , . Tho first prize was awarded by Messrs Bricks, Ltd., and the second pri2e by McSkimming and Son, Ltd. Design No. 2—A modern week-find crib in wood and tentest, costing £3so— S. Smyth 1, Miss V. Pollard 2. The first prize was awarded by Mr C S. McCully and the Becond prize by Messrs C. E. Otley, Ltd.
