TRAMWAY BOARD ELECTION
LABOUR CANDIDATES NOMINATED NINE NAMES CHOSEX A largely attended meeting of members of the Labour Representation Committee and of affiliated unions and branches was held in the Trades Hall last evening to select candidates to stand in the Labour interest at the Tramway Board election in November. Mr H. McCaw presided, and also present were the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) and Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P. The following candidates were selected to contest the various districts:—
Central—Messrs J. K. Archer, J. Mathison, G. Manning, John Roberts, and E. Parlane. Spreydon-Addington—Mr E. J. Howard, M.P. m Riccarton-Fendalton —Mr G. T. Thurston. Avon-New Brighton—Mr P. C. Webb. Hills-Sumner —Mrs E. R. McCombs. Mr F. Langstone, M.P., will conduct the Labour party's election campaign. The only sitting member among the nominees is Mrs McCombs, who was first elected in 1927. Messrs Manning, Webb, and Thurston stood at the last election in 1030, but were defeated.
