GOLDEN JUBILEE.

KLN'CAID'S, LIMITED. In the year 1880, in the ship Jessie Readman, the late Mr Thomas Kincaid arrived in Lyttelton from County Tyrone, Ireland, and three years l3tei founded the business which bears his name and which has grown with the city, until it is now one of the most important firms of its kind in Canterbury. This year it is celebrating its golden jubilee and for that reason, special interest attached to its staft dance, held last night at Frascati. It was a very pleasant gathering, the large number of guests greatly appreciating the excellent arrangements made for their enjoyment by members of the committee. The guests of honour were Mr Andrew Kincaid, Mr A. E. Kincaid, general manager, and Mrs Kincaid, and Mr and Mis L. J. Kincaid.

The members of the dance committee were Mrs C. E. Ive (secretary), Miss E. Kerr, Mr W. Randle, who acted as master of ceremonies, Messrs J. Weir, W. Rhind, A. Heath, and G. Fowke. Mrs L. J. Kincald wore' an effective frock of pimento red faille, with coatee to match, edged with gold bead embroidery. Mrs Ive wore an uncommon frock of polyanthus chiffon velvet and Miss Kerr's frock was of orange georgette, patterned in small floral design. Music was provided by Seymour's orchestra, and amongst the novelty dances was a "Jubilee Monte Carlo.'

DANCE AT SPRINGFIELD. The Springfield branch of the Women's Institute celebrate its first birthday anniversary with a fancy dress ball, in aid of charity. From seven to nine o'clock, the children were entertained with games and dancing, music being supplied by Mrs Percy and Miss Fraser, and the children's Monte Carlo was won by Ronald Harris and Joe Hawkins. Prize-winners were: Best fancy dress (girls). Olive Lapthorne (Peacock); boys, Edwin Saundercock (Micky the Mouse). Special prizes for tiny tots, given by Mrs Lewis, were won by Avis Cushen (Chrysanthemum), and Joyce Hawkins (Pineapple); special prizes, given by Mr Skelton, Nancy Newman and Betty McCullum (Fairies). Ashley "s band supplied music for the adults, and Mr Lightfoot played an extra. Novelty dances were enjoyed, and a Monte Carlo was won by Miss N. Ferguson and Mr Cuttes. Messrs Doody and Norman were masters of ceremonies. A cake-cut-ing competition was won by Miss N. Lewis.

Prizes, presented by Mrs Norman (president), were won by the following:—Best fancy dress (ladies), Miss N. Lewis (Mexican Lady); men, Mr C. Dorward (Highwayman); most original costume (ladies), Mrs J. Taylor (Minnie the Mouse); men, Mr F. Scott (Grandma). Mrs P. Ruston made the three-tier birthday cake.
