Guiders* Training School. The fortnightly meeting of the Guiders' Training School was held on Thursday. There was an excellent attendance at both sections of .the training. The next meeting will be held on August 25-th, and an interesting programme has been arranged. AH guiders are asked to attend, and there will be a general meeting after the training. The training for campers' license will commence on September Bth. Two lectures will be given by Miss Blackwell, which will be followed by a week-end camp (i n^oors ) at Kairaki, Kaiapoi. Guiders wishing to take this training must notify Miss' Blackwell not later than August 20th. Lone Guide Branch. The first Canterbury Lone Guide Company is in course of formation and recruits will be gladly welcomed by the captain, Mrs C. B. Mackissack, 139 Hackthorne road, Cashmere, Christchurch, who will be pleased to give any information concerning this branch of the movement. Lone guides are girls who live out in the country away from any company, or whose work is suob that they cannot keep up with an "active" company, and it is for them that the "Inne" branch was started as far back ast 1913. Since then a flourishing orgt; aisation has grown, which has proved of great use to lonely' girls. The lone companies are run as much as possible like ordinary guide companies, but the place of a weekly meeting is taken by monthly letters containing company news, articles on badge work, stories, competitions, and letters from guiders and patrol leaders. Character train ing, good citizenship, and skill in handcraft are fostered in the "lone" branch, as in every other gaart of the move ment. The girl to whom is denied the chance of "active" guiding can still, if she becomes a "lone," feel that she is doing her best to "be prepared for service."
Miss Esther James, a member of the Lone branch of the movement, who has recently completed a walking tour of the Dominion, has consented to attend the meeting of St. Luke's Rangers on Monday, at 7.30 p.m. Miss James will relate incidents of the tour, and the St. Luke's Ranger Company extend an invitation to all guiders and their companies to be present.
