OTAGO BEAT CANTERBURY. The final match of the chess tournament by telegraph between the four leading chess clubs of New Zealand, which decides the olub championship, is to bo played off on August 20t.*i and 27th between the Welliniztor Club, which beat Auckland, and the Otago Club, the winners of the South Island watch. At the conclusion of play on July 80th last the Otago v. Canterbury score-sheet showed tan finished games: Otago 6J, Canterbury 3J. leaving 10 games to be judged The results of thesu are now to hand, thanksto the promptness of Messrs A. W. Gilu* and G. P. Anderson, oy Wellington, who were the judges appointed by the New Zealand Chess "Association. Of th* ten unfiniphod games three were decided in Otago's favour and three for Canterbury, while the remaining four were drawn. The final score-sheet is as follows: Canterbury. Otago. 1. H. .J.
