MANY PROSECUTIONS.

DEFAULTERS UNDER UNEMPLOYMENT ACT. Many prosecutions under the Unemployment Act were heard in the Magistrate's Court yesterday against persons who were alleged to have defaulted in instalments of tlio unemployment levy, others who were charged with failing 10 pay the emergency unemployment tax, and some with falling to register under the Act. The prosecutions wero instituted bv the Labour Department. Defaulters Fined. * For failing to pay instalments of the unemployment levy, Robert Gordon Arnott, fined 10s and costs on one charge, and convicted and discharged on the second; Harold Walton Bock was fined 10s and costs on three charges and c.onj victed and discharged on a fourth ' charge; Frederick Harold Dry was lined ! 10s and costs on throe charges, and was convicted and discharged on a fourth; James Ingram Marriner was fined 10s and costs on three charges and was convicted and discharged ou two other charges. Arthur Lester Martyn was fined 30s and costs on three charges ,and was convicted and discharged on two; Harry Pollock was lined £1 and costs on two charges and was convicted and discharged on three; David Clifford Carey w(is lined 10s and costs on one charge and was convicted and discharged on five; Maurice Stanley Percy Cliff was fined 10s and costs on one charge and was convicted and discharged on two charges. Malcolm Goss was fined 10s and costs on two and convicted and discharged on fourf Percival Andrew Mills was fined' 0? and costs on one, and convicted and discharged on five; "John William Mumford was fined 10s and costs on one charge and was convicted discharged on two charges; Leslie Charles Thomas Hawtin was fined 5s and costs on one charge and was convicted and fined on. five. Failed to Register. For failing to register, Eric John Coates Askenbeck was convicted and ordered to pay costs; David Clifford Carey was fined 10s and costs; Malcolm Goss was fined £1 and costs. Tax Not Paid. The following were dealt with for failing to pay the emergency unemployment tax: —George Angus St. Clair Bone, fined £1 and coßts; Ernest Silbey, Eric John Archey, Charles Atkinson, William John Bannan, David Clifford Carey, Maurice Stanley Percy Cliff, Harold Cole, Cyril Cullen. Charles Leonard Dickson, Maurice. Ealam, Reginald. William Edgar, Albert Gordon Fabian, lan Fraser, Roderick Fraser, Clifford Goodwin, Edward Hanrahan, Eric Michael, Thomas Healey, Major Hood, Francis Jenner, George Edward Kirk, Raymond Miiligan, Ernest Lawrence Muchr.iore, Albert Naisbett, David Newman, Percival Andrew Mills. Norman Pilkington, Cecil Charles Rhodes, Alfred Roi, George Ross, Albert William Smith, Arthur Herbert Symons,- Charles William Smith, James Edward Smith, Lawrence Robert Smith, William- Allan Smith, Claude ■ Victor Harry Williams, David Williamson, and Leslie Charles Thomas Hawtin were each fined os and costs. .Employers Fined. Charged with employing a person >n arrears with the unemployment levy, Clarence Daly was fined 20s and costs; Iliirold Bradley was fined £1 and costs. Charged with failing to deduct the emergency charge, Robert Derrett was fined £2 and costs.
