J . PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO TUB PBESri.) GEEYMOUTH, May 18. Mr E. Wild (Hokitika) left yesterday to attend the meeting of the Canterbury Education Board in Christcliureh. Nurses Halliday and Grant, of the Westland Hospital staff, Hokitika, left yesterday on a holiday motor trip to the North Island. Miss M. Dunn, of Fendaltou, formerly headmistress at the Blaketown Side School, is visiting Greymouth. Mr and Mrs O. W. Williams, who have been visiting Greymouth, returned yesterday to Tokomaru Bay. Mr Sam Baddeley, formerly of Eunanga, who has been visiting the West Coast, returned yesterday to Hamilton. Mr 1 M. Maloie, who has been visiting Eunanga, turned yesterday to Christchurch. Mr J. W. Earp, Chief Government Apiary Instructor, arrived yesterday from Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. S. Eobertson, who have bepn visiting Christchurch/ and Wellington, returned yesterday. Mr and Mrs A. M, Jamieson arrived yesterday from Christchurch on a holiday visit to Greymouth. Mr J- W. Mcllroy arrived yesterday ■ from Christchurch. Otira Tunnel. The amount of freight hauled through the Otira tunnel last week was 10,497 tons, compared with 10,088 tons for the corresponding period of 1931, and 14,659 ,tons in 1930. Obituary. The doath occurred yesterday at Ivaroro of Mrs H. \' anink. Mrs Weenink, who was a native of Milton, Otago, was 'OB, and arrived from Otago at Hokitika in the last of the old gold digging days. She is survived by her husband, four sons, and four daughters, and also four sisters and one brother. «* . Tlieft of Shovels. A miner, William Henry Lupe, aged 22, of Eapahoe, appeared at tEe Magistrate's Court yesterday charged with the theft of fyvo shovels valued at 17s, the property, of the Grey County Coun- v cil. He pleaded not guilty. After hearing th£ evidence the Magistrate con. victed defendant, who was ordered to com i up for sentence if called upon within twelve months. He was ordered to pay ss, the cost of the handles, and 3s car hire. Eugby Football. At a meeting of the Westland SubUnion at Hokitika on Monday evening it was decided to accept the challenge of the West Coast Eugby Union to send a team to contest the/Dittman Shield on June 25th, and also to send a team for a junior match.
