Opportunity has been taken to maintaiu the vigorous tree-planting campaign, more than 10,000 trees having been planted this season. At a recent meeting of the local unemployment committee it was decided that in view of the ever-increasing number of unemployed registrations, only bona fide ratepayers would receive consideration for work, under the No. 0 Scheme, if necessary. The object of this decision is to endeavour to check the influx of unemployed from the City and other suburbs, and also to reduce the expense in which the maintenance of a large number of men has involved the New Brighton Borough Council. It was thought that all single men and married men with no children, would have to be stood down this week, but owing to an increase in the amoiint of the allocation all eligible men were given work. Municipal Links. Tho recent attention to a- number of fairways and approaches on the Municipal Golf Links has resulted in a considerable improvement to the Municipal Links, and a good fall of rain is needed to make golfing conditions excellent. The popularity of the links can be gauged by the revenue which, since the beginning of the season, has amounted to approximately £533.
