The greatest opportunity that London has offered to any architect since Sir Christopher Wren set to vrork to rebuild after the Great Fire—that is how the. experts regard the planning of the new University of London buildings in Bloomsbury, which has been entrusted to Mr Charles Holden, P.E.1.8.A. Mr Holden, a native of Bolton, in Lanca shire, was the architect of the healquarters of the London Underground Eailway at St. James's Park, the great pile which is so striking an example of the new spirit of architecture. The site he has now to deal with is. about ten and a-half acres in extent. The total cost of the scheme may be £8,000,000.
