H- Marriner) were appointed the Development of New Zealand industries Committee, with power to co-opt rc P' rescntatives of Canterbury College, employees unions, and other specialists. ' Snow and Exhibition. Mr Archbold reported as a result of a request to tho Electricity C'ommiUfco oi tho City Council for a reduction in charges, on the occasion of the Winter Show and Industrial Exhibition m Granti National Week, the committee had granted those who j 'would make working displays freo power up to .'5 h.t). It was decided to send the CominiiI tee a letter of thanks. | The organiser (Mr E. H. Marriner) ' reported that the whole of his tunc j last month had been occupied in coniicxion with the forthcoming Winter Show and Exhibition Up to the preI sent over 48 firms had booked space j for exhibits in the main building, and applications were coming to hano I every day. It appeared as though tho ! whole of the space would be taken beforo opening day The following firms had atrrood to make working exhibits: --Nugget Polish Co., Bunting and Co., Archbold Bros., Selwyn Hosiery, Kaiapoi Woollen Co., New Scott Range Co., Clements and Jndkin, Lane, Walker, and Hudkin, Woolston Tanneries, M.R.D.. and Christchurch Gas Co. The display should be one of the best yet .seen in Christehureh. and it was hoped to add to iho number of exhibitors. Applications were being received daily for.selling stalls and side-shows, and indications wore that they -would be equal in numbers to those of previous years. The organiser stated that he hoped shortly to visit tho West Coast to arrange for school excursions to the exhibition. The report stated that there had never been a time in the history of the Dominion when the manufacturing industries had been so much discussed, and he suggested that the lime was appropriate to launch a New- Zealand-Made League on the lines of the Australian League. The report was adopted. Proposed Junior League. Miss 11. K. Lovcll Smith waited on the executive and placed before it a suggestion that the services of school children should be enlisted to assist local industries. She suggested that the scheme, of which she should be appoint.ed organiser, should be formed ou the following lines:— (1) That a Junior League or Brigade of the Manufacturers' Association be formed to be composed of boys and girls of, say, from eight to 18 years, the children to be enrolled from (a) all State primary schools, (b) all high schools and technical schools, (c) all private and Church schools. These children should be enrolled and formed into groups with their own officers, all members to wear a badge. (2) That small travelling exhibits be made of industries that lend themselves to small exhibits. (3) That the newspapers be approached with tho idea of using the children's pages. (4) That an industries pageant by organised for the children. This could be arrauged as a New Zealand historical pageant showing the growth of industry in New Zealand. (5) That a roll be lcept of vacancies likelv.to occur in various industries ami members of these groups be given perference in the matter of employment and apprenticeship. It was decided to refer the matter to the Propaganda Committee with ' the suggestion that it should co-opt some olfthe members of the Ladies' Auxiliary.
