Donald wrote agreeing-to give lancl to widen the corner of Highsted and Sawyer's Arm# rouda The Transport Department wrote forwarding & copy of the proposed new regulations. On tjie motion of Cr. W. G. Chapman, it was decided, to write to tho Prinio Minister j and the losal M.P-'s entering a protest. The Drainage Board wrote advising tho levy of rates a3 follows: —Loan arou, 1 isl-l!4il, ; outer loan area, 27-CW, Goodaujis drain | £lO, Homer's drain £144, rural Avon 7-6-1 d, rural Kiccarton 5-64 d. Out oi tho total rates levied.(£so,Bß9) the sum of £16,939 lias been collected, leaving £3SSO (7 per cent.), outstanding. A complaint was* regard to the state of the drain on tho iNortli road at the corner of Tucker's' road. It was, fitated that the bank had fallen away and was a danger to pedestrians using the footpath. The matter was left in tho hands of Cr. 'Chapman and tho county foreman. An arlditional lamp will be erected on Ifarman'a road, midway between Harcwood ai.d Sii'.vyeT's Arms roads. Growth of Operations. Chapman of tho chairman. Cr. Chapman said that ho had traced this year's minutes of the Council back, and could find no mention of it. > "About eighteen -months ago application had been made to have these roads declared secondary highways, but this was l'efused, j he said. "The cost of reconstructing. Travis road will be nearly _ £2OOO, and (why should wo bo burdened with that amount, when tho morey could be spent to better advan* ta?f) on other roads?" I The chairman said that no authority had been given this year, but about eighteen months ago he had been appointed on a deputation from this Council, along with representatives oE *tlie Tramway Board and New Brighton Borough Council, to approach the. .Highways Board in regard to Travis road being- declared a.secondary highway, so that it would be fit to carry, the trolley-buses.
