CHRISTCHURCH DEFENCE CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Christchurch Defence Rifle Club was held, the deputypresident (Mr R. Neill) presiding. The report showed the club to hare had • most successful year, having J l ®**, successes retained the Oakea* Shield, * number of challenging teams. The most outstanding individual effort was the performance of G. Crimp, who occupied the position of runner-up in the Otago rifle cham-The'balance-sheet showed the club to be In a Rood financial position, the balance, JSIB 18s Bd, being £l7 Bs Od in excess of that of the previous season. The prises for the. 1629*80 season vw® presented as follows: —Club champiojwhip and short range aggregate, N. Wood; Canterbury College Students' Cup, D. Harries, Oracroft Wilson Cup, for service championship, O. W. Sandford; club championship, H. Harries. The following also won competition prises I —D. Murray, 8. F. Nelson, G. Hepburn, H. Brake, W. Rooney, W. Oakley, A. W. Beaven, G. Crimp, A. McElroy, 0. Wear, and W, S. Wharton. The election of officers resulted as.follows: Patron, Mr R. M. Morten; vice-presidents, Mrs W. O. Walker, Colonel J. Murphy, Majdr R. A. Row, Major J. P. Oakes, Captain B. L. C. Brown. Lieut.-Cqlonel V. B. Creswell, Messrs W. Ballantyne, W. M. Tyers. R. Duthie, J. Cracroft Wilson, and N. Wood; president, Mr H. Reynolds; deputy-president, Mr R. H. Neill; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr w. S. Whai-ton; hon. auditor, _ Mr R. Duthie; handicapped, Mr H. Harries; committee, Messrs A. Beaven, H. Brake, A. Halmshaw, D. Harries, : G. Crimp, G. Hepburn, S. Clark, H. Harries; delegates to Canterbury Rifle Association, Messrs H. Reynolds and H. Harries.
