WEST COAST TOUR.
EXCURSIONISTS RETURN. 'i't.e plejjjurc lour to the West Coast, organised by the Railway Department, ended on Saturday, when members of the party returned to- Citfistchurch. The Weather remained "'perfectly fine for the whole of the tour, and" the excursionists were able to view the Glaciers under idea] conditions.. '.'-.. . .Leaving , Christchurch on Monday List, die party spent the night at Hokiiiki), and- resumed the journey by motor on the following morning.-vThjß Waiho Hastel was reached at 2.30 pl.m. The afternoon was spent in rambling in the bush nearby, and on Wednesday the trip on to the Franz Josef Glacier was made, several hours being spent on the ice, under a perfect sky. On Thursday morning, air set out for the Fox Glacier Hotel, 17 miles away, the party arraying at 10.30 o'clock. A visit was first made to the' Cook river, where a magnificent view of the mountain ranges was obtained. including the major peaks, Cook and Sefton. Members of the party were astonished at" the nearness of Mt. Cook, when viewed from the FoX side. In the afternoon, the climb to the Fox Glacier was made, and one and a half hours were spent on .the ice. The nipht was spent at the Ft.x Hotel, and the return journey to Hokitika began at 8.30, a.m. on Fridav. On the way a stop/was made at Lake Murchison, and a few hours spent on the water. ' / All the mcmberslof the partv, which consisted almost exclusively oi Caristchurch people, were more than satisfied with the holiday, and r-xpressed a desire to repeat the tour in the future.
