The report and balance-sheet were adopted The report referred to a satisfactory year's play among the thirteen teams, but regretted that the representative team had only been successful in one outside match, namely that against Kaiapoi. A party from the Canterbury Association consisting of Messrs Gosb, Browning, Mercer, and Harraan,. attended by request to explain to the delegates the advantages "of joining the . Canterbury Association. It. was stated that not ouly would the North Canterbury players be unable to play in the Canterbury Association's tournaments unless their subassociation or their clubs had affiliated, but that such an access of strength to the Canterbury Association would materially increase the Association's influence with the New Zealand Association. Delegates were assured that the Sub-Association would have full power to manage their own matches, and that the only charge would be £1 for each one hundred players in the Sub-Associarion, with possibly a maximum of £5 ss. The meeting was much impressed by the statement of the position, and a notice of motion was gives, for a> further meeting oa

Friday, October 3rd: "That the North Canterbury Country Clubs' Association form themselves into a sub-association of the Canterbury Association under definite rules." It was decided that the series of matches should begin on Saturday, October 4th; that play should bo on three consecutive' Saturdays, with one off day each month; and that play should begin at 2 p.m., and cease at' 6.30 p.m. Mcssts W. J. Percy, A. W. Newton, and J W. A. McDougall were appointed an executive to arrange the draw for play, and to get together details relative to the formation of a sub-association, and make arrangement's for ranking lists, and generally settle any matter that might crop up between, tho meetings of tho delegates. The Canterbury Association now comprises 5000 members, out of 27,000 in the New Zealand Association. It is estimated that the sub-association will comprise at least 500 members, and thus give Canterbury a considerable lead above Auckland's 4800 members. From the opinions expressed by delegates at th« meeting there appeared to be a great probability that they will return to the further meeting of delegates with foil power to form an Association to affiliate to tho Canterbury Association.
