MAGISTERIAL. FRIDAY. (Before Mr J5. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Louis Chanal Neary appeared on remand on a charge of being found drunk in Tuam street on September 16th. Senior-Sergeant J. J. O'Grady said that Neary was the man who when in Court on Tuesday had made a charge against the police of assaulting him. Since then he had had time to think oyer the matter, and had made a statement denying his charge. Accused was fined 20s and costs, in default seven days' imprisonment. TRAFFIC CASKS. James Frederick Andrews was fined 10s and costs for driving a motor-truck without a tail-light; Charles Bell, 10s and costs; Dennis Carey, for driving a motor-car without lights, waa fined 5s and costs, while Albert William Frith and Charles William F. Hamilton (Mr Fenlington) were similarly dealt with. Frederick Vivian Bevan'-Brown (Mr A. A. McLachlan) was fined £3 and costs for driving at a speed dangerous to the public; Patrick John Borthwick (Mr F. S. Wilding), £5 and costs, while a charge of failing to report an accident was dismissed; Edward John Poison (Mr K. G. Archer), for negligent driving was fined £2 and costs. The case against James Fowler (Mr M. J. Burns) for failing to give way was dismissed. As a result of a fatal accident on Riccarton road on August 2nd, Edgar Clement Mann (Mr Wilding) was fined 20s and costs for driving without lights, and £3 and costs for driving a car without efficient brakes. For cycling at night without lights, the following were fined:—Horace Croft 5s and costs, Frederick Arthur Rumble 10s and costs, Wilton Tyson 10s and costs, George Stewart White 10s and costs. Clarence Stockham Young 10s and costs, Walter Hibbard 10s and costs, while on charges of having no bell or reflector he was convicted and discharged. For cycling on the footpath, the following were fined:—William Double 10s and costs, Robert Evans 6s and costs, Norman McNab 108 and costs, Alfred Rinaldi 10s and costs, Melville Smith 10s and costs, Stanley Kirk 10b and costs. For having no lights on his motor-cycle, Hugh Herbert was fined 5s and costs, while on a charge of having no license he was convicted and discharged. Perclval Ranson Tully (Mr J. D. Hutchison), for failing to give way at an intersection, was fined 30s and costs. John Henry Cockroft (Mr R. Twyneham>, for a similar offence, was fined 20s and costs. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) CLAIM FOR DAMAGES. Reginald Thackwell, civil servant, of Christchurch (Mr Braithwaite), claimed from Colin Thomas *Mwj.rd Stewart, of French Farm, Akaroa (Mr W. F. Tracy), tho sum of £49 12s, at damages arising from a collision. Joseph Thackwell, a brother of the previous plaintiff, a truck driver, claimed £52 15s as damages arising from the same set of circumstances. The case was partly heard on September oth, and was concluded yesterday. The plaintiffs were non-suited, the Magistrate holding that they had not carriod out their liability to prove the exact spot of the accident. Costs. £5 Is 3d, were allowed against each plaintiff.
