LIQUOR IN RESTAURANT.
PROPRIETOR PINED £l2. (ratai association ttusoiuii.) DTJNEDIN September 19. David Jack pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day to permitting liquor to be drunk in his restaurant. known as the Brown House, on Saturday night last, and was fined £l2, with costs. It was stated by the police that when the raid was made some of thoso present showed signs of liquor, and also that defendant did not at once freely admit the police. The premise" were used as tearooms and caoaret. When the po)ice were admitted, tho servants were engaged in gathering up S lasses and pouring the remains of quor fnto the sink. The room had been let to members of a local chlb, who had no authority from the club to engage it. There were seventytwo people on the premises. Couplet were seen going out to motor-cars and drinking.
