HELD OVER FOR TWO WEEKS.
PROPOSAL TO REDUCE I»RICE OF ELECTRICITY. It had been the intention of Cr. E. E. McCombs to move at last night'B meeting of the Oity Council in accordance with notice given, "that the minimum charge of Id per unit for household electricity be reduced to }d per unit," but after a short discussion, she agreed that the matter should be held over.
The Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) said he understood that the matter was now being considered by the Electricity Committee. Ho suggested that in the circumstances Or. McCombs should hold over her motion in order to see what the report contained. Cr. H. T. J. Thaeker (chairman Qf the committee) suggested that Cr. MeCdmbs should hold over her motion for a few months longer. The Mayor: I think Cr. McCombs wants the change made at once. Cr. McCombs said that she was not in favour of the matter being held over until October. She had bfienjiSked to Wait for a balance-sheet and had done so, but she Was new being asked to wait until the end of the year. If she did so there would be no balance-sheet available. She was afraid that the whole matter would be shelved, fdr which reason she felt disinclined to postpone the motion as suggested. ■ The Mayor asked if the committee would agrtfe to consider 1 the question between the present time and the next Council meeting and submit its report a fortnight hence. Dr. Thaeker: I will guarantee that. Cr. McCombs: tlndef these circumstances I will agree to hold over the motion, but 1 am reluttant to do so as all the facts are now before us. It yas decided to hold over the matter to onfrble the COnHnittfee t6 consider it, and submit a report at the next meeting of the Councih
