(Received July 13th, 5.5 p.m.)
CANBEBEA, July 13,
The Prime Minister (Mr J. H. Scullin) vigorously defended the Budget against its critics. He . said that apparently some people wished to repudiate the debts and reduce the war and old age pensions. He certainly would not do that. "Wo intend to go along, fearlessly facing the position and balancing the Budget," he declared. Mr P. Brennan, the Attorney-Gen-eral, said that he did not expect that the Budget would be popular; on the contrary, they intonded it to be drastic.
