When you take your age and population into consideration I (iorft think you have anything to be ashamed of—in fact, 1 think you have a devil of a lot to be proud of.'' .said Mr LI. B. Tcakle, general manager i f Canadian Steamships, Ltd., to-day "I think you have a very beautiful — indeed a Very wonderful—rcountry.,'' continued Mr Teakle. who has just completed a tour of the South Island. "1 think you have a lot to offer in the way of scenic features. As you get older you will get the tourists. That is the position as I see it. When'you consider that you are less than a hundred vear.% old. I think you have done remarkably well—in fact, it is almost impossible to find a ivcrd to express it. I think your primary industries are going along in a -marvellous-way." Conditions in Canada, said 'Mr Teakle. were very good. "We are just as optimistic about our country as you are about yours," he said, "aiid 1 think we both have good grounds for ootimisni. In my opinion there is a wonderful future for botlr countries." Air Teakle declined to make a comnarison .between the railways of New Zealand and those ol Canada. •"! could, but .I won't." he said, adding that lie was not here for that purpose.
