COMPETITION FOR PLANS.
FIRST PRIZE AWARDED TO MR W. H. TRENGROVE.
The Jury of Award, reporting on the competition for new exhibition buildings for the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association, states: — "Eleven sets ot designs were submitted in a limited competition open to registered members of the Canterbury Branch of the tsew Zealand Institute of Architects. *At the end of the first evening, five sets of designs were selected and placed aside ready tor the final selection. At the next meeting further elimination took place, with a result that the final vote was unanimous for number seven, submitted by Mr W. H. Trengrove^ "The feeling of the Jury of Award was that this design best fulfilled the requirements called for, and quentlv awarded the first prize to the authdr. and recommended its adoption subject to modifications in the elevatlo"jurv also Jiked number 10, submitted 'by Mr RS. D Harman, and recommended that this design be awarded second prize. "The other designs coula not, unaer the terms of the programme, be officially placed, as only the. first ana second prizes were to be recorded, in making the recommendations ana awards the Jurv were gratified at tne response made bv architects to the invitation of the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association. All the deigns submitted, showed merit, and it became a difficult matter to finally choose and make the final award, in making the recommendations and award the Jurv made no effort to learn the identity of the various competitors and remained in ignorance or such identity until after the awards were made."
