At the fortnightly meeting of the executive the following -were present: Messrs Hayden (chairman), Leadley, Boundy, Marshall, Ouddon, Smith, Holmes, Chisnall, Emerson, and the secretary. Tho Canterbury Chamber of Commerce wrote, in reply to a request from the Association, that it ivould recommend to employers that returned soldiers should be given preference when vacancies occurred where qualifications were equal. The Heathcote County Council made application for a further grant of £25 for the relief of unemployment. This was granted subject to the usual conditions. The Sumner Borough Council made application for a grant of £IOO for the purpose of repairing the Summit road from Evan's Pass to Mt. Pleasant, subject to a subsidy of £ for £. This was granted, subject to the work being commenced not later than the end of March, and subject to the usual conditions attaching to such grants. In connexion with the annual Poppy Day appeal, it was decided this year to make every effort to increase the sales in the Canterbury district, .and it was resolved that an organiser be appointed. Mr Marshall reported that he had interviewed the _ Commercial Travellers' Association regarding the annual competition for the Dey-Throp Cup, and it was decided to play the cricket and tennis matches this month, and also to recommend that the cricket match be played at Motukarara. The president reported that the membership campaign was well under way, and that four teams had been formed for the purpose of interviewing prospective members. Four active members and one club member were elected.
