ANNUAL PICNICS.
WELLINGTON WOOLLEN CO. The Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company's annual picnio wis held at Stewart's Gully on Saturday, in glorious weather. The journey was made in motor buses. During the day races were run, the results of which were ae follows: Employees' 100yds—Ladies: Miss Watta 1, Miss CosgrOve 2. Men: F.' Corbett 1, S. Hemmingaeu 2. Employees' 50yds, Apprentices—Mies Marshall 1, Miss-Hales a. Children's 50yds, Girls—Mies - Simpson 1, Miss Brownlees 2. Children's 50yds, Boys—Master Brownlees 1, Master Brand .2. Elopement Race, 100yds—Thomson and Mies CoSgrove 1, D. Kirk and Miss Brant 2. Men'e Opes Race, 100yds—E. Barnett 1, F. Corbett 2. . Cigarette Race, 100yds—Thomson and Miss Watts 1, F. Corbett and Miss Vincent 2. Lady Visitors' Race, 80yds—Miss Brand 1, Miss Glackin 2. The manager, Mr Dryburgh, presented the prizes. SHIRLEY SCHOOL COMMITTEE. —• At the usual monthly meeting of the Shirley School Committee, there were present: Messrs Thompson, Bureon, Anderson, Finney, Clothier, Stanley, and Mrs McKay. The headmasters report stated that the school reopened on February 3rd with an attendance of 621, and the roll number was now 665. It was resolved to write to the Waimairi County Council asking if it was correct that the Council was willing to cut grass in playgrounds in their district. Failing a satisfactory reply, the matter of cutting the grass in the playground was left in the ' hands of the Visiting Committee with power to act. Final arrangements were made for the annual picnic to bo held at Ashblirton on February 28th. The Visiting Committee's report was given by Mr Stanley. Stanley and Anderson' were appointed a vieiting committee for the ensuing month.
