ROYAL CHRISTCHURCH MUSICAL SOCIETY.
♦ A meeting of the committee of the Roval Cliristchurch Musical Society was held in the Durham stilet schoolroom. There were present: Madame Gower-Burns, Mra Adkins. Mrs Harper, Misses Freeman-Brown, Dulcie Mitchell, and Searell, Messrs T. Andrews (chairman), Atmore, Roberts, and Venables. The chairman reported that practices for "A Tale of Old Japan" and "The Messiah' * are well in hand. "A Tale of Old Japan" is dated for the 26th inst. The soloists are Madame Winnie Fraser (soprano), Mrs A. Harper (contralto), Mr Hubert Carter (tenor), and Mr A. L. Cropp (baritone). In the miscellaneous portion of the programme, besides the soloists participating, items will be given by Miss Myra Edmonds (soprano), Mr Glaysher (harpist), and Mr Francis Bate ('cellist). Mr H. A. Adley, secretary, was granted leave of absence on account of ill-health. Sir Edward Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" was selected as the first concert for the 1930 season.
