CALDER MACKAY CO., LTD.

STAFF DINNER. The first Birthday Banquet of the members of the Calder, Mackay Co., Ltd., staff, was held at the'residence of Mr and Mrs Calder Mackay, 60 Knowles street, Papanui, on Saturday last. The 24 members were met by Mr and Mrs Mackay, who charmingly acted as host and hostess. The reception room was decorated with orange and yellow festoons, balloons, and streamers. Several toasts were honoured and speeches made, and great amusement was caused by the introduction of several novelties. After dinner games and dancing added to the enjoyment of the evening. Mr Calder Mackay, the managing director, responding to the toast of "The Firm," made a happy speech in which he briefly outlined the wonderful progress the company had made during its opening year. He thanked the staff for their wholehearted loyalty and cooperation, which he claimed had made their customers' dealings with the firm a real pleasure. The firm owed its outstanding success to the fact that they had absolutely refused to sell anything but goods of the highest quality on terms which were within the reach of everybody. At supper time the hostess cut the firm's big birthday cake after a second big candle had been lit from the candle on the cake. The gathering was an outstanding success', and the happy spirit which permeated the whole evening augurs well for the continued success of the company. AMURI POLO BALL. !
