Many and varied are the acts of social service performed by Girl Guides and organisers of charitable gatherings are learning to depend, more and more, on their valuable help. On Saturday, at the "white elephant" sale on Cashmere Hills, the Cashmere Girl Guides assisted at the tea stall, and their cheerfulness and efficiency were appreciated by the stall-holders and the visitors. The first of a series of social gatherings organised by Mrs Betty Sneesby and Miss Irene Leaver, in aid of the North Beach Gala and Foreshore lmSrovement Society, was held in the iorth Beach Peace Memorial Hall, which was gaily decorate?! for the occasion. The guests danced merrily to tho strains of Crawford's Band and several ballets were danced by the pupils of Miss. Dorothy White's School of Dancing, and vocal items were contributed by Mrs Betty Sneesby, Miss Anderson, Messrs Fred Hale and E. Pegler. An extra was played by Mias D. Hull. Mr Les. Scrimshaw acted as M.C. At the invitation of the Rev. Mr and Mrs Sharp, the Linwood Methodist choir spent a very enjoyable evening at the parsonage. Opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Mrs Cumberland, one of the oldest members, who, after many years of faithful service, has resigned the treasurershin of the choir, owing to ill-health. " A presentation was also made to Mr 8. Harrington, who has completed twenty years' service as choirmaster at Linwood. The Rev. Mr Sharp, in making the presentation, spoke of the high esteem in which Mr Harrington was held by the choir and congregation.
