ANOTHER FIRE.

OUTBREAK IN STABLE.

ORIGIN NOT EXPLAINED. Fire in the stables of Mr F Truscott, saddler, at the corner of Lichfield and Durham streets occupied the attention of the Central Brigade at about 8 o'clock last evening, and altaough there theWli* of dres set down fts . Little damage was done, being confined to the charring of woodwork in a corner of the building, where some straw was found to be burning, and the destruction ot the uphoktery an a little of the woodwork on a gig and dog-cart. The alarm was given by the occupant of the premises next door, who noticed flames coming from the coiner of the stables, which are of galvanised iron. The commotion caused by the operations of the brigade alarmed a large cage of pigeons which were situated close to the seat of the blaze. There were three horses belonging to the City pie-carts in the stables at the time of the but they behaved very quietly in spite of the noise. , . . ... Mr Truscott and his two sons lett the building about 5.30 p.m., but the cjffee stall horses were placed m the stables at about 6.30 or 7 o clock, when nothing was found to be amiss. Access to the place is, however, quite simple, as the key to the lock securing the gates is kept on a chain for the convenience of the pie-cart men, wituin easy reach of the street; *The vigilance shown by both Fire Brigade and police was evident from the prompt arrival of the engines, and detectives from the central police headquarters. The story of two that a man had been seen trying the lock of the back gate was explained subseouently by a resident who, seeing the flames, attempted to enter the back gate to investigate.

MAN INJURED AT PETROL FIRE. William Simmonds, aged 29, residing at 73 Queen was admitted to the Hospital at 9.30 yesterday morning, suffering from burns round the legs, received at the .oil fire in Oarlylp street He was salvaging petrol cases when one of his fellow workers slipped and dropped a tin, which ignited. Simmonds- is not seriously injured. Three leads of hose were directed on to the fire all day yesterday —one from the top of an extension ladder, and two others from the Carlyle street frontage. Men were engaged in dragging down and tins, by means of iron hooks nttect to long poles, from the debris yesterday. It was while these operations were in progress that the accident happened. DAMAGE IN MARLBOROUGH. (PMSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) BLENHEIM, August 6. The eight-roomed house of Alfred Rore, at Wairau Pa, was destroyed by fire. No fire-fighting equipment being available, the flames made a _ clean sweep. The origin of the fire is unknown. The house was insured for £450 and the furniture and effects for £l5O in the Northern Office. A four-roomed cottage owned by the Atkinson Estate, which was the scene of an outbreak on July 24th, was discovered to be again on fire. The cottage was badly gutted. There are strong indications of incendiarism. LORRY AND LOAD DESTROYED. (FKXSS ASSOCIATION TXLESKAK.) HAMILTON, August 6. Fire totally destroyed a motor lorry owned and driven by B. B. McLaren, of Auckland, on the "Main South road at Horotiu this afternoon. McLaren, a contractor, was carrying a load of benzine from Auckland to Hamilton. The vehicle ran into loose sand and went over a small bank, bursting into flames.. The driver rolled out into a creek and was extricated by people in the vicinity. All the motor spirit was destroyed and the lorry was reduced to a total wreck.
