FRENCH CRUISER.
DEPARTURE FROM AUCKLAND. [THE PRESS Special Serrlca.] AUCKLAND, August 6. Enthusiastic scenes accompanied the departure of the French cruiser Tourville for Wellington to-night. With her band playing and the searchlight piercing a pathway through the heavy rain, the cruiser's stern swung away from Central Wharf at 6.30, but owing to the failure of the steam compressor an unforeseen delay occurred, and it was not until 40 minutes later that she glided silently into the stream. The final function of the visit was an "at home" on board the cruiser this afternoon, when 500 guests attended. The visit has been a most successful one, and the behaviour of the men ashore magnificent.
