UNITED BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION.
CRITICISM OF WORK. The work ox the United Burgesses' Association gtmt up lor criticism at last evening's meeting of the Beckenham Burgesses' Association, when a letter was received stating that the Association's subscription was due. "Are He yeituig vJjo equivalent of our 10a 6d?" asked Mr X. Cm-lisle. He sUted that at the inaugural meeting of tho U.B.A. a policy had been outlined of assisting the suburban associations. This had been carried out in the early stages, but during recent years the U.B.A ap}>eared to have gone beyond itself, and had become a political body. A number ot tho Association*) affiliated were deriving little benefit. A few years ago the Addington Burgesses' Association had withdrawn from the U.B.A. Ha questioned whether the U.B.A. had done any good for the City. Mr Thornton, Beckcnhaui delegate to the U.8.A., contended thut much good had been don; by the major body. The question of tram fares, picturo queues, early oponing of theatre doors, and a great nurnIvr oi iiflpiul public matters had beer, taken up by the U.B.A. He thought + hat one of tho troubles was the faiture of the suburban Associations to us.- the U.B.A. enough. Al't-or further discussion, tho payment of the subscription was passed. "We had better pive them something to do." eaid the chairman. It was decided to, refer thr question of Berkenham drainage to the United Burgesses' Association, request in? it, to take up the matter, and also that the U.B.A. should take up the question of further publicity being given to the work of all local bodies, in particular the Drama?? and Domnns Board.".
