ON SOUTHLAND FARM.
A FINE OF £250. tnsM associxtiox mMia.) IXYERCARGILL, July 8. Yesterday afternoon a visit was paid by Senior-Sergennt Foi. Sergeant Abel, and Constables Beadle and Xesbii to a farmhouse in the Grcve Bush district-. The house was found to be unoccupied at the time of the visit, and it, as well as the two nearby sheds, was securely locked. Acting under the warrant in their possession, the police forced the doors, and found evidence of illicit distillation in the dwelling house, as well as in the outsheds. After taking stock of the position. t?.e Fenior-Scrgeent and Sergeant Abe! returned to Invercergiil by car, leaving the two constables in charge of the premises. At about 7 p.m. tiie occupier arrived, and was arrested bv the constables and taken to the Invercargill lock-up. In the Police Court tliis afternoon. William Burke, farmer, of Grove Bush, was fined a total of £.->0 on two charges of having spirits in his possession on which full duty had not been paid, and for having on Ins premises apparatus suitable for distilling. Accused pleaded guilty.
