REQUEST FOR IMPROVEMENTS. i; The Canterbury Automobile Association has written drawing attention to the number of sub-wayß and over-head-ways at railway crossings in the North Island, and asking the City Council to consider the question of improving certain railway crossings in the City," reported the By-laws Committee last evening. "The Association has also drawn attention to the delays to traffic which, take place at the Colombo street crossing owing to shunting operations, particularly at rush hours, and further, to Ihe 'fact that a number of crossings are dangerous at night as the crossingkeeners go off duty earl"- and there is nothing to indicate that fact to the traveliing public who, having been used to seeing crossing-keepers at these points, are inclined to think the line is clear. "The Committee is taking the matter up with the Railway' Department." Cr. D. G. • Sullivan, M.P., said he had nlreadv discussed the matter with the Minister for Railways, and he honed something wou'd be d£>ne.. In answer to Cr. P. TV. Sliarpe, the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer 1 ) said he understood a census of traffic would be taken at the Colombo street crossing. The clause was adopted.
