NO MORE WAR MOVEMENT
COUNCIL CANNOT PROMOTE DEBATES. Keporting to the City Council la3t evening in reference to the request made bv the deputation representing the No More War M iment that the Council give consideration to the question of establishing municipal debates on vital social topics, such as peace, war unemployment, etc., and which vras' referred by the Council to the committee for consideration and report, the Entertainments Committee stated that it could not make any recommendation in the matter. While it was in sympathy with the principle of the No More War Movement, it was of opinion that the inauguration of debates was outside tl«? Council's functions. Cr. H. T. <T. Thaeher; I thin.'c these good" people should Lave been allowed io inaugurate these debates under the patronage of yourself, Mr Mayor, and the Council. The new band rotunda on the river bsnk might be used by the leather-lunged, and if there was a debate that was any good it. might be broadcasted. The Mayor (Mr J. K. ArelieV): It was - not intended to discourage these people, but' it was felt that it did not come within the Council's province. The clause was adopted.
