KEGLECT ALLEGED. ' At the City Council meeting last evening a letter was received from Messrs McGregor Wright and W. E. Gahagan, two Of the local body representatives en the Board of Governors of the ohri3tebureh Technical College, enclosing a brief report on tho work- of the college since tlxe beginning of this year. The Board was at present endeavouring to obtain a grant for the purchase of a farm of about 50 acres for the agricultural branch of the work, the existing area (15 acres) set apart for this mirpose being found inadequate. C'r. F. E. Cnoke moved that a letter or congratulation be sent to the Board on its endeavour to give an education in agriculture. The schools to-day, he said, were neglecting to. teach the boys how to grow a potato. There was practically no education on biology in the primary schools. , Cr. H. T. J. Thacker,' seconding the motion, said the school should get 5000 acres, not 50 acres. (Laughter.) "Oh it's no use out Conservatives grinning," said Cr. Thacker. "If.the school took over an area like that between here and Hororata, say, -what a difference it would make to unemployment! Conservatives couid do nothing but laugh at such proposals." Cr. E. H. Andrews: That's hard on the Mayor. Cr. Thacker: Oh, he can stand it. The motion was carried.
