CANTERBURY FARMERS

RETURN YESTERDAY. j j The Canterbury and West Coast party j of farmers who have been touring the j North Island for the last fortnight arrived back in Christchurch yesterday morning, and dispersed to their homes by trains and motors. All are delighted with the succesa attending the excursion, and warmly praise the Railway De- ! partmcnt for its excellent control of the j arrangements. This appreciation was shown at the termination of the gathering at Pctone on Monday afternoon' prior to leaving for the boat. The op- j portunity was then taken to make pre- i sentations to the railway officers who have been responsible for the success of the tour. Mr Colin Mcintosh presented a pipe and case to Mr F. Pawson, Canterbury business agent, and Mrs A. M. Carpenter, of Fernside, asked Mr Pawson to accept on behalf of Mrs Pawson a Westminster chiming dock as a token of appreciation from the ladies in the party. Mr B. Fisher, representing the West Coasters in the party, presented Mr A. McNeil, Wellington j railway business agent, with a silver ; cigarette case. The proceedings were j most enthusiastic, the presentations ! being accompanied by cheering. j Before returning to the train, Mr A. j Fisher, of Culverden, voiced the thanks | of all to General Motors, Ltd., for their ; kindness and courtesy to the party. i
