LINCOLN COLLEGE.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS. ' I The Lincoln College Board of Governors met yesterday. There were present:—Mr John Deans (chairman), Hon. D. Buddo, Dr. H. G. Den nam, Messrs H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., C. H. Hewlett, H. A. Knight, N. M. Orbell, W. A. Banks, James Murray, T. A. Stephens, and R. E. Alexander (Director). j A letter from the Department of Agriculture agreed to a payment of a j subsidy of 10s in the £ on a voluntary | contribution of £l9 10s made to the; College. Mr Orbell referred to the farm course at the College, which -was to begin on July Bth. From opinions be had heard expressed among young farmers, he did not think that many would attend unless accommodation could lie arranged on the premises or in Lincoln. The Director explained that several hotels in Christchurch had consented to provide accommodation at decreased rates. There would be a certain amount of accommodation available m Lincoln if the farmers did not wish to go backwards and forwards to town. Mr Kyle: Some of them are wondering what the cost will be. It seems that it will be about £lO. Dr. Denham said that there were junior members in the stock and station firms in Christchurch who were unable to attend the day courses, but who would be glad to attend the evening lectures. The Board expressed the opinion that thsy would be welcome, and would be admitted free. It was also decided to make it known that if those attending the course would notify the Director, he would arrange accommodation for them without further trouble on their part. Mr Hewlett referred to the extra grant of £3OOO a year, plus a capital grant which the Board had asked for from the last Government. The matter was dead and they should renew their requests, for the College badly needed the money. It was left to Mr Kyle to bring the matter to the notice of the Prime Minister. The Director's report showed that the weather during May had been on the whole good. Two wet days in the middle of the month had held back work for a few days. The land was wetter than usual at this season, and should ensure good strikes of grain. The growth of newly laid grasses and green feed was abnormal. Unless the winter was more severe than normal, there should be an abundance of stock feed right into the spring. Turnips were a better crop than one could have anticipated in March, when they looked anything but healthy. Mangels had been l.ited and stored; the crop was only fair. Autumn oats had all been sown and got in on a good seed bed. The area at the College was IPS acres, an*! at Ashley Dene 60 acres. 58 acre® c-f wheat had also been sown, and a further 21 acres were in wheat trials. The 58 acres sown included IS acre? of trials sown by the Agriculture Department. The balance of the wheat land was ready for sowing, or sowing was is progress. Arrangements had been made to send four Border Leicester rams to Sydney Sale, and an offer of sgns for "30 Border Leicester hoggets had been accepted for shipment to Sydney.
