KIDNAPPING CASE.
POLICE GUARD WITNESSES. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY XLECTRIO TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received December 25th, 11.5 p.nn.) VANCOUVER, December 24. 1 4. Chicago message says that special police remained on guard at the homes of chief witnesses after the jury convicted Angelo Pettiti and Andrew Oapellano of kidnapping, for ransom, ten-year-old Billy Ranieri. Judge Gentzel sentenced them to 25 years' imprisonment. ' "I commend you for your courage, vour patriotism, and your judgment. You have my profound respect," declared the Judge to ihe jurytoen. The Judge asked jurors to report to the police immediately if they received more threat's of death. "I have received threats of death during this trial, but I hope to get home all right, said the Judge—United Service.
[Mafia terrorism was disclosed in the trial of Pettiti, who is stated to be connected with an Italian Black Hand gang. Duripg the trial ten witnesses for the State disappeared, being either driven to cover by fear of vengeance or kidnapped.]
