Within a day of the last bricS. being laid in positiou, a new £13.000 London church, St. Jude's Thornton Heath, was badly damaged by a mysterious fire. Two poignant features of nhe ulbreak were that the raising of money tc build the church had heen a labour of love and' sacrifice by the congregation for over 20 years. The ■ vicar the Rev. George Frarey Vh ; ttleton, who is blind, wept as the progress of the lire'was described to hira'by friends.
