MR CHARLES THOM^SO^
Another early colonist, Mr OhwJef Thompson, whoso death is recorded a* the age of 88 years, arrived With his parents at Lyttelton in the Duke t of Portland in 185ir After s short stay in the barracks the family walked over the Bridle Track to Chnstchurch and ,
settled at Fendalton, living in a raupo hut. Eventually they moved to Prabbleton. Tne late Mr Thompson. Along with his parents, took up land there and farmed until 20 years ago, when he removed to Christchurch. Mr Thompson married in 1861 Ellen Townshend, eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Townshend, of Lincoln, it being the first wedding celebrated in All Saints' Church, Prebbleton. The late Mr Thompson is survived by six sons—Messrs B. 0* Tflpmp-' son (Hastings), ff A. IhorapsonjTakapau), A. Thompson (WangftniuV William Thompson (Geraldine), T. E. Thompson (Oiristohttroh),. t>fidJ3> *£ Thompson (New Brighton); , Bis wife predeceased ntm some years ago, About six months ago Mr Thompson met, with an accident, from which he never recovered. The funeral will take place on Thursday morning at Prebbleton.
