The Berlin correspondent of the "Daily Express" states that it was the discovery of M. Leon Trotsky's book that brought about Ms banishment* It was discovered just when it was about to be broadcasted throughout the country. The Cheka worked swiftly and silently, and within a couple of days everyone in any Way concerned was arrested, and exiled to the fnrthest corners of Kussia. The entire edition was destroyed. M. Trotsky exposes the alleged breakdown of the industrial system, and says: "The Soviet bureaucracy is tyrannising over the workers In a worse manner than their former employers. The youth of the country is growing up in illiteracy owing to the failure to organise schools. The sovereignty of the people is a mere notion, all power being vested in the Stalin oligarchy, which immediately removes anyone voicing different opinions. "Official returns of unemployed for April last year stated that the total was 1,500,000. The real number was 2,000,000, and it is being steadily increased by the stream of out-of-works pouring into the townß. "—Australian Press Association.
[ln December of last year the Communist Congress expelled Trotsky and his supporters as "counter-revolution-aries." They were deprived of their official posts and banished. Trotsky, from his exile in the little village ot Almaata, Turkestau, alleged that Soviet secret police instigated various attempts on his life. He has more thnn once been reported as dead. The book referred to was smuggled into Germany and will be published shortly. In it Trotsky states that under the present reghiw Bolshevism is hurriedly drifting to its end. fie accuses officials of jugglitig with figures in order to make the black outlook appear brighter.] .
