Sir William Clark, the newly-ap-pointed British High Commisaioner, was officially welcomed to Canada on Saturday night at a Government dinner. Speaking of the importance ot his appointment, the Prime Minister (Mr Mackenzie King) said it was by far the most important step yet taken to further effective consultation and co-operation between the Governments of Great Britain and Canada, with resultant benefits to both, and, what was even more important, to the unity of the Empire as a whole. It was the most effective means thus far devised of securing the Crown against becoming involved in any possible controversv which may ever arise between the different Governments of which his Majesty is the head. "If closer relations of the Governments of the Empire and the maintenance of its unity through the security of the Crown is what we all desire, he said, "may we not truly say that here they find the surest, as well as the latest, development."—Australian Press Association.
