(united PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY MLBOTMO TELEOBAPH—COPttLIOHT.) (Received November sth, 8.80 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 4. A message from Jesup, Georgia, states that Judge R. Thomaß, of the City Court, was shot dead by Deputy-Sheriff Madray, following a knife and pistol duel in the street after the Judge had called the Sheriff an "Al. Smith man." Both men were Hoover supporters and Madray took exception to the Judge's aspersions on his loyalty as a fit manager for conducting the campaign on behalf of Mr Herbert Hoove'r. Madray was slashed, although his wounds were not serious.
The incident indicates how badly split the Democratic Party is in the' Southern States were hitherto Republican sentiment has never been known to exist.—Australian Press Association.
