SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT.

The hounds met last week in the Fairlie district at Nixon's road. Heavy rain during the week had made the going very heavy. The hounds threw ofi in a paddock of Mr Gillingham's, which proved blank. However, on moving into the next paddock a hare was soon afoot and set off towards the hills, but on meeting a flooded stream she changed her course and doubled back for half a mile. Here she met the stragglers of the field and had to change her course again, this time crossing the creek. A tricky turn at the edge of the creek held the field up for some time. By the time a jumping place had been found the hpunds were well away across the road, and running in a northerly direction. Another flooded creek again turned the hare. She doubled back on her tracks and went due south for about two miles, where eventually the pack jyilled her down, ending so far the best run of the season. Following this there were several short, runs, and in the afternoon there was another almost equal to that of the morning. Owing to the very heavy going the hounds were pulled up earlier than usual. The followers were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs S. K. Gillingham. Those following were:—Acting-Master Mr S. K. Gillingham (on Moderation), Huntsman J. Shaw (Geordie). Whip G. Shaw (Message Boy). Misses J. Seay (Country Fads). R. Seay (Bunny), Messrs Bourn (Templin), Reillv (Gaynor), Elms (New Dav), Riddle (Bye-a-Bye), Adams (Master Roslvn). Seay (Romany Lad), Robinson (Black Watch), and others; in cars: Mrs Gillingham and party, Mr and Mrs H. le Cren. Mr and Mrs Hi Fisher, Mr Wills, Mrs Richards. Miss Richards, Mr and Mrs Inman, Mr and Mrs Kidd, Mrs J. Seay, and Miss Talbot.
