RIFLE SHOOTING.
SOUTH ISLAND ASSOCIA TION.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETLNG. Ib perfect weather, the first day of the 'annual championship meeting of the South Island Kifla Association was held yesterday at the rifle range, Redcliffs. Good entries were received in all matches, and there were many keen contests. In the morning, a slight nor'-wester was blowing across the range, but this did not affect the shooting to any extent. In the afternoon, however, the wind increased, with the result that the scoring was not what it might have been. AH the matches were got off with as little delay as possible, and the arrangements reflected great credit on those responsible. One of the most outstanding performances of the day was that of Rifleman J. Bills (Christchurch Defence Club) in the Westlaud Match, of 500 yards. Ho scored 49 points, which was one off the possible. Considering the conditions, it was an excellent exhibition.
